A leading manufacturer, heavily involved in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), faced growing data management challenges as the business expanded. The company struggled to consolidate data across its many entities, since each operated on different systems. As a result, the leadership team lacked visibility into overall sales performance, making it difficult to track key metrics like best-selling products and revenue by region.
As the company continued acquiring new businesses, each one maintained its own systems, creating persistent data silos. This fragmentation blocked efforts to gain a unified view of operations. Moreover, many internal stakeholders questioned the accuracy of reports and lacked confidence in the data they received.
At the time, the company didn’t have a dedicated business intelligence (BI) or data team in place. Although building that capability internally was a long-term goal, they first needed expert support to set up the right infrastructure. Their objective was clear: deliver accurate, consolidated reporting and create a foundation their internal team could eventually own and scale.
We implemented a comprehensive data management solution using Databricks to consolidate data from various systems across the company’s multiple entities. This allowed the company to bring together critical information, such as customer sales, product types, and revenue figures, into a single, standardized data lake.
The solution included the development of a custom dashboard to provide topline sales data, year-over-year comparisons, and breakdowns by customer and product type. This dashboard was built as a reusable template, ensuring that the company could replicate it for future reporting needs as they expanded their data capabilities.
In addition to creating the Databricks-based data lake and dashboards, we provided guidance on building out the company’s internal BI and data engineering teams. Our consultants trained the company’s new hires on the systems that had been developed, enabling the company to manage their data infrastructure in-house. A repeatable data pipeline was also created to bring in operational data from the company’s machinery, providing real-time insights into production and performance.
Standardized dashboards and templates reduced silos and increased confidence in data accuracy.
Leadership now recognizes analytics as a critical business asset for strategic decision-making.
Steering committees and feedback mechanisms ensured dashboards meet stakeholder needs.
Internal BI teams now create additional reports independently showcasing the systems flexibility.
A solid data foundation positions the company to expand it’s capabilities and support growth.
